We install Schlage Encode, Yale Assure, Kwikset Halo, August, Ultraloq, and other major smart lock brands. We'll recommend based on your door prep, your connectivity needs (Wi-Fi vs. Bluetooth vs. Z-Wave), and whether you need vacation-rental guest code management or home automation integration.
What happens when the power goes out?
Most smart locks run on AA batteries with a typical life of 6–12 months. Power outages don't affect them. Low-battery alerts are sent to your phone before the lock dies. Most models also accept a 9V battery jumpstart from the exterior terminals if you're caught off guard.
Can I still use a physical key with a smart lock?
Yes. Every smart lock we install includes a physical key override cylinder. You keep the manual key as a backup — you just won't need to use it once the app or code is configured.
Is a smart lock secure against picking and bumping?
Smart locks from Schlage and similar premium brands use pick-resistant, bump-resistant cylinders equivalent to Grade 1 deadbolts. The electronic components add an additional layer — most burglars bypass the lock entirely and attack the door frame instead, which is why we also recommend reinforcing strike plates during installation.
